Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodge (Explored)

Forebay, Hershey Lodge

Forebay Restaurant at the Hershey Lodge

SIMPLY AMAZING!!  I really enjoyed this throw back to the way restaurants used to be. It took me back to when I ate here 36 years ago- I think the same table and maybe the same waiter.  I don’t think anyone leaves this restaurant, too.  Many of the staff have been here for 20+ years and they can tell stories that can’t be repeated outside of the hallowed grounds at Hershey.

Forebay Restaurant reminds me of the Jos A Bank tag line: “the new tradition started in 1905”. The food was on par with any restaurant in NYC or LA; but the environment makes you just want to RELAX, and relax I did.

I am not a big drinker, preferring the calories to go directly to a chocolate dessert; but I did partake in a few drinks and lots of food, almost all made with chocolate, to impart suggestions for you my loyal friends:

Some Highlights:

Martini, Forbay, Hershey Lodge

Hershey’s Kisses Signature Chocolate Martini, the Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodge

Hershey’s Kisses Chocolate Martini

WOW! Made with 360 Chocolate Vodka, Smirnoff Vanilla Vodka and Jacquin’s White Creme de Cocoa, this was by far the best martini I have ever had in my life.  The Hershey Kiss (in place of an olive) was the perfect accoutrement.  Sweet and smooth, I had no problem knocking this one down just as my food arrived.

Salmon, Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodge

Cold Smoked Salmon Tartare, Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodge

Cold Smoked Salmon Tartare-

This was my only non-chocolate dish, but it was also very much a favorite. The potato pancake and chive sour cream sauce were a fantastic compliment.

Shrimp, Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodge

Cocoa Chili Shrimp & Grits, Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodge

Cocoa Chili Shrimp-

This is a wonderful dish: torched poblano & sweet corn grits, tomato and cocoa dusted grilled shrimp.  Rich and delicious. Update: A friend just got back from hershey and told me they have changed this dish to a Chocolate Barbecued Shrimp.  It is also supposed to be off the charts!

Scallops, Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodge

Cocoa Dusted Sea Scallops, Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodge

Special Delivery:Cocoa Dusted Sea Scallops

Another perfectly prepared dish.  So soft and delicate, pan roasted with just a hint of cocoa. Awesome of the menu gift from the chef. Thank You!

Triffle, Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodge

White Chocolate Tiramisu Triffle, Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodg

Forebay Milkshake

I asked the waiter for another chocolate drink and he surprised me with this Adult Milkshake. Holy Cow- I may take up drinking as another hobby.  Baileys, Dark Creme de Cocoa, Vanilla Ice Cream and Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate shavings.  A great setup for the desserts that were on the way.

Now I know desserts change all of the time, so I’m not worried that if these are not exactly as you find them when you visit.  The bottom line is The Pastry chefs at Hershey’s Lodge probably better get it right and guess what- THEY DO!

Molten Chocolate Cake, Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodge

Molten Chocolate Cake, Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodge

Molten Chocolate Cake-

Big Hit! Delicious cake, warm distinctive Hershey flavored chocolate sauce, tasty vanilla ice cream. I’m guessing this dish may have been invented within 5 miles from where I was sitting.

Triffle, Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodge

White Chocolate Tiramisu Triffle, Forebay Restaurant, Hershey Lodge

White Chocolate Tiramisu Triffle-

Rich and Divine.  As if channeling all of the creativity from the area’s 100+ years of chocolate recipe making. Chocolate crumbs was a aded nice topping.

All in all, this was a wonderful evening of food and drink. I can’t recommend the Forebay Restaurant at Hershey Lodge enough. The ambiance is something I can’t wait to take my family back to visit. Don’t be afraid to talk to the incredible staff: they have amazing stories that they love to share. If you are in the area- it is a must stop, even if you are not staying at the hotel.

And PLEASE, if go to Hershey, eat the chocolate desserts!
